UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's golf team will make their first appearance in the second annual Brickyard Collegiate Golf Championship, hosted by Mercer University. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at The Brickyard at Riverside in Macon, Georgia from October 10-13th.
The Brickyard at Riverside Course spans 7,128 yards with difficulty at a par 72. The tournament opens Friday with practice rounds, but will begin competitive play on Saturday with 8:30 a.m. tee-times off both the first and 10th tees. Play will continue at 8:30 a.m. on both Sunday and Monday.
Mercer is hosting a 15-team field including returning 2007 Brickyard first, second and third place teams, University of Georgia, Clemson, and Georgia Tech. Other competition includes Augusta State, Charlotte, Duke, Florida State, Hartford, Kennesaw State, Oregon, Mercer, UT Chattanooga, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest.
"This week we have simply work hard on fundamentals. We took a little more time with the full swing, and continued work inside of 30 yards," said head coach Greg Nye. "This is the third extremely strong field we have played against this season. We have emphasized that we have played well and that we look to keep moving forward. If we do this the competitive finish will take care of itself."
