Schirk Wins Men's Swimming's First-Ever National Championship
Junior Pat Schirk became the first-ever individual champion in the history of Penn State swimming as he broke his own school record with a time of 1:40:22 in the 200 backstroke finals. Schirk, a two-time All-American and Pottstown, Pa., native, helped the Nittany Lions tie for 23rd place with Hawaii, their highest finish at NCAA's since 2002. Gridiron Bash Postponed, Get Refund Information at GoPSUsports.com
MSL Sports and Entertainment has announced the postponement of all Gridiron Bash events nationwide due to a recent NCAA ruling regarding athlete participation in the event. As always, numerous events will still be held in or around Beaver Stadium April 18-19 to celebrate Blue/White Weekend. A pre-game autograph session with the players will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, and the scrimmage will kick-off at 2:00 p.m. There is no admission or parking fee for the game. Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships Kicks off an Awesome April in Happy Valley
This weekend, April 4-5, Penn State and Rec Hall will host the 2008 Big Ten Men's Gymnastics Championships. Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio State and Penn State will participate. Friday features the team and all-around finals, and Saturday the individual event finals. Go to Championship Central for more information on the teams, tournament, and tickets.

Action In University Park This Weekend
In addition to championship men's gymnastics action, baseball, softball and women's tennis are all home this week. Baseball plays five games over five days beginning on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. against Bucknell. The team plays again on Friday beginning a Big Ten weekend series against Michigan at 6:35 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader versus the Wolverines starting at 2:05 p.m., and finishing up the series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Softball meets Illinois on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Saturday at noon, followed by a Sunday doubleheader against Iowa beginning at noon. Women's tennis matches up against Big Ten opponents Purdue on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Illinois Sunday, also at 10 a.m. For more Penn State sports action this week check out the calendar of events.
