WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.; February 26, 2008-

Representing Penn State in the 500 freestyle consolation finals in good position to win points is Chris Sullivan with an NCAA "B" time of 4:23.23. A new personal best in the event, Sullivan is now second all-time behind Martin Schierhorn, who set the Penn State record in 2001.

In the same event Colin Quirk shaved nearly four seconds off his personal best touching the wall in 4:32.48 while Max Ettore improved his best by over two seconds clocking in at 4:29.70.

Scott Marino led the way for Penn State in the 200 IM checking in at 1:48.18. This time is a new personal best and catapult's him from eighth to third all-time in the Penn State record book. Tim Williams was right behind him at 4:18.28 while Matt Cox improved his personal best by three seconds touching the wall in 1:48.76 breaking into the Nittany Lion top 10. Marino, Williams and Cox will compete in the C final tonight.

Also in the 200 IM, Mitch Scherer dropped his career best by four seconds in 1:53.42.

The Lions performed best in the 50 freestyle as freshman sensation Brian Alden and senior Jason Goldner touched the wall in under 20 seconds to earn NCAA "B" times and represent Penn State in the consolation finals this evening. Alden's time of 19.83 placed him third all-time in the Penn State record book while Goldner makes his first appearance at sixth. Vincent Reydams and Basil Kaaki also advanced and will compete in tonight's C finals. Reydams clocked in at 20.11 while Kaaki broke into the top 10 with a time of 20.22

Diving action ended the morning session, with senior Josh Bonner scoring a 293.25 to advance to tonight's finals of the 1-meter.
