UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team will take on the 49th-ranked William and Mary Tribe on Friday in Williamsburg, Va. The Tribe are 12-7 so far this season.
Last Sunday, the Nittany Lions swept the Maryland Terripans, 7-0, in College Park, Md. Penn State came out and won two of the three doubles matches to clinch the doubles point. From there, the Lions carried the momentum and won all six singles matches in two sets. The win gave Penn State its first win over a ranked opponent this season.
Last time out, William and Mary lost to No. 14 Pepperdine, 5-2, to drop to 6-3 in the Colonial Athletic Conference. The Tribe's best win of the season came on Jan. 31 as they downed No. 60 Clemson, 4-3.
Leading the Tribe so far this season are Keziel Juneau and Marwan Ramadan. Juneau has played in all 19 dual matches this year for the tribe, going 13-6 in the No. 1 bout. Ramadan has gone 9-10 at the No. 3 position this season.
In nine matchups, Penn State is 4-5 all-time against William and Mary. Penn State's last matchup vs. William and Mary came on March 24, 1991, when the Nittany Lions were downed the Tribe, 5-4, at University Park. The Tribe's last win over Penn State came during the 1990 season.
Following the matchup with William and Mary, the Nittany Lions will head to Alabama for the Blue-Gray Tournament begins on March 19.
