June 22, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; June 21, 2009 - The former Nittany Lion duo of Erin McLeod and Ali Krieger suited up for another club, but had similar results to their old college days. McLeod and Krieger tallied a 1-0 Washington Freedom shutout win over Saint Louis Athletica in Women's Pro Soccer (WPS) action this past week. A total of four Nittany Lions stepped on the fields at WPS stadiums across the country in matches last week.

In all, four Nittany Lions, Christie Welsh of Saint Louis; Tiffany Weimer of FC Gold Pride; along with McLeod and Krieger saw significant time for their respective clubs.

McLeod and Krieger defeated Welsh and Saint Louis, 1-0, thanks to McLeod's seven saves and Krieger's strong defensive form in her second straight start for the Freedom since returning stateside. Welsh started the match, recording one shot in 58 minutes of play.

Weimer saw time in two games last week, a 1-1 tie at Boston and a 2-0 loss at L.A. Weimer saw 17 minutes in reserve in the 1-1 deadlock with the Breakers, while playing five minutes against the L.A. Sol.

Altogether, six Nittany Lions are on WPS rosters this season. Stay up to date with all the former PSU stars in the WPS at www.gopsusports.com/sports/w-soccer.
