Tickets For 2009 Charleston Classic On Sale

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Aug. 17, 2009 - ESPN Regional Television, Inc. (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN, announced that tickets for the 2009 Charleston Classic go on sale beginning Monday, Aug. 17. The second annual Charleston Classic will be held on Nov. 19, 20 and 22, at Carolina First Arena.

The eight-team field includes Penn State, Davidson, La Salle, Miami (Fla.), UNC Wilmington, South Carolina, USF and Tulane. Four of the teams in the field played in the 2008-09 National Invitation Tournament, including NIT champion Penn State, Davidson, Miami and South Carolina.

The tournament consists of 12 games through three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. Penn State will take on UNC Wilmington at 4:00 p.m. on Nov. 19 live on ESPNU in the first round. Miami (Fla.) and Tulane will play in the other half of Penn State's bracket.

Fans can purchase tickets to all six sessions (12 games) for $90 each, or single-session tickets (two games) for $20 each. "Booster tickets" are also available for $50, allowing entrance to all three sessions (six games) involving the pre-designated team of your choice. The Nittany Lions return three starters and eight lettermen from a school-record 27-11 season that culminated in the 2009 NIT Championship at New York's Madison Square Garden. Among the returners is junior point guard Talor Battle (Albany, N.Y.), a first team All-Big Ten, USBWA and NABC All-District selection, who led the U.S. World University Games team in scoring this summer. Battle (16.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 5.0 apg) is joined by returning junior starters D.J. Jackson (4.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg) and Andrew Jones (6.2 ppg, 5.7 rpg) and 6-8, junior swingman Jeff Brooks. Penn State returns 53 percent of its scoring and 65 percent of its rebounding and will welcome four incoming freshmen, as well as red-shirt freshman forward Billy Oliver (Chatham, N.J.).
