Penn State Downs Villanova, 4-2, in Field Hockey Exhibition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Led by strong performances from freshmen Hannah Allison and Kelsey Amy, the Penn State field hockey team topped Villanova, 4-2, in an exhibition on Wednesday afternoon. Allison, a redshirt freshman, scored two goals while Amy dished out two assists in the victory.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a quick lead with two goals in the first 3:21 for the 2-0 advantage. Jessica Longstreth started the scoring at 1:36, redirecting a cross from Bethany Marvel. Allison then scored her first off a penalty corner only 1:45 later.

A great individual effort from Allison led to a 3-0 lead at the 19:48 mark. She made a move around a defender then backhanded a shot high and past Villanova goalkeeper Megan Goelz.

The Wildcats got on the board late in the first half when Dana Ramsden scored off a penalty corner to make it 3-1.

Penn State regained a three goal advantage early in the second half. Daneen Zug took a beautiful cross from Amy and beat newly entered goalkeeper Maura McCormick to make it 4-1 at 38:06.

Ramsden added her second goal of the game, roofing a perfectly placed shot past Ayla Halus at the 66:07 mark for the 4-1 final.

Final shots were 27-15 in favor of the Lions while penalty corners were 16-7, Penn State. Both goalkeepers were strong, combining for eight saves on the afternoon. Ali Meves had three while Halus started the second half by making five consecutive saves before allowing a goal.

Penn State opens the regular season next Friday, Aug. 28, at Old Dominion before traveling to Virginia on the 30th. The home opener is set for Friday, Sept. 4 at 6 p.m. vs. Lock Haven. Check back to GoPSUsports.com for continued updates as the Lions prepare for their 45th anniversary season.
