UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--The Nittany Lion women's soccer squad will try to get back on the winning side of things on Monday afternoon when it concludes the Penn State Invitational against Connecticut. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. at Jeffrey Field following the West Virginia/BYU game at noon.

Following a tough 2-1 loss to No. 14/17 West Virginia (1-0-1), Penn State (1-1-0) goes or its eighth-straight win over the Huskies of Connecticut (0-1-0), who lost 1-0 to Brigham Young (1-0-1) on Saturday. The loss to the Mountaineers, the fourth-straight and third-in-a-row at Jeffrey, is still fresh in the minds of the Nittany Lion staff and players.

"As long as we learn from it, I think we'll be fine going forward," Penn State head coach Erica Walsh said afterwards. "But we've got to put more than one goal in the back of the net against a team like that. We're capable. We've got enough weapons. There was no pressure on the ball in the midfield and I start with that."

Katie Schoepfer and Danielle Toney combined for a beautiful goal against West Virginia to knot things up at one, but scoring chances weren't turned into goals as another Schoepfer shot hit the crossbar and the ensuing Christine Nairn shot was saved.

Penn State has managed just two goals in two games this season, and all the offense has gone through Toney (1G, 1A). The Nittany Lions are 15-1-1 all-time when Toney tallies a score.

UConn will look for better offensive results as it was shut out by the Cougars Saturday afternoon. Worse off, the Huskies didn't find a single shot that reached the frame, as BYU's goalkeeper didn't have to make a save all day.

Penn State is 7-0-1 against Connecticut all-time, but the series typically sees low-scoring games. No team has ever scored more than two goals in a single game and never has more than three goals been scored combined by the two teams. The Nittany Lions took a 2-0 win at Connecticut last season.
