UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's golf team is currently in sixth place after the first day of the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville S.C., their first tournament of the 2009-10 season. The Nittany Lions posted a first round score of 316.
East Tennessee State and Nova Southeastern State are in a tie for first place with a score of 306, ten strokes ahead of the Nittany Lions.
Freshman Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) led the team with a first round score of 75 and is currently in a tie for third place. Sophomore Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) followed close behind with a 79, earning her a tie for 31st place after the first day.
Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fl.), junior Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) and senior Katherine Murphy (Portsmouth, R.I.) all finished tied for 41st place, each notching a first round score of 81.
Freshman Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.), competing as an individual, rounds out the Nittany Lion field with a score of 83.
Action will continue tomorrow at the Furman University Golf Course, with the second round play teeing off at 8:30a.m.
