UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - The Big Ten Network will air several of the Nittany Lions' most memorable victories from 2008-09 and seasons past on Wednesday, July 22, with 24 hours of Penn State programming.
The third of three days this summer dedicated to Penn State on the Big Ten Network will feature the Nittany Lion men's basketball, football, women's soccer and women's volleyball teams.
This week also will feature a new edition of "Conversations from Penn State," featuring an interview with Grandma Aggie at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a replay at 4 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday. In addition, the third episode of "Expert Opinion," hosted by University President Graham Spanier, will air at 7 p.m. Thursday and again at 1 a.m. Friday and will cover the topic of "The College Student as Athlete."
Episodes of the Big Ten's Greatest Games featuring the Nittany Lions will air throughout the day:
- 9:00 a.m. - Penn State's 13-6 win at Ohio State during the 2008 football season;
- 3:00 p.m. - The Nittany Lions' win over No. 1 Georgia in the 1983 Sugar Bowl to capture their first national championship;
- 7:00 p.m. - The Nittany Lion basketball team's thrilling 65-63 win over No. 2 Michigan State in the 2001 Big Ten Tournament;
- 10:00 p.m. - Penn State's 37-30 gridiron victory over Boston College and quarterback Doug Flutie in 1984.
The Penn State Basketball Story's season review episode airs at 9:00 p.m. and will look back at the Nittany Lions' school record 27 wins and exciting run to the 2009 National Invitation Tournament Championship.
Two matches from the Penn State women's volleyball team's march to an undefeated season and its second consecutive NCAA Championship also will air Wednesday on the Big Ten Network. At 11:30 a.m., the Nov. 22, 2008 Senior Day match with Wisconsin will air. At midnight, the Nittany Lions' 3-0 win at Michigan on Nov. 29, 2008 will air, as Penn State became the first team in NCAA history to win every game during its regular season. The win also clinched the Nittany Lions' fifth undefeated Big Ten season since starting play in 1991.
The Penn State women's soccer team won its fifth conference tournament last fall, and the championship game versus Minnesota will air at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions have won 11 consecutive conference championships.
