UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Jan. 20, 2010 - Penn State (8-9; 0-5 Big Ten) will look to run its winning streak to five straight games vs. Indiana (8-9; 2-3 Big Ten) Thursday night before a live national television audience at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN2 at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Penn State will be playing its first game in front of its very vocal and supportive student section in six weeks and will welcome the students back with $1 Dog Night at the Jordan Center. It will also be Highmark 2-for-1 Night with any Highmark Insurance member able to show their card at the ticket office and receive a 2-for-1 ticket deal. Volunteers will also be canning at the Jordan Center's four gates for the Haiti relief fund, in conjunction with the American Red Cross.
Penn State, which has won 12 of its last 16 Big Ten home games, will be looking to end a five-game losing skid and post its first conference win of the season after holding significant leads in its last three contests. The Lions have lost six games by five points or less on the season, including a one-point loss at Illinois and three-point loss at Iowa in its last two games.
Junior guard Talor Battle posted 31 points in the Lions last outing, a 67-64 loss at Iowa, and leads the Big Ten with three 30-point games on the season. Battle moved into 14th place all-time on the Nittany Lion career scoring charts with 1,264 points and became just the fourth Lion ever to post 1,000 points, 400 rebounds and 300 assists for their career.
Indiana is coming off an 81-78 overtime victory over Minnesota in Bloomington on Sunday. The Hoosiers are led by guard Verdell Jones III who averages 13.4 ppg and freshman forward Christian Watford who posts 13.0 ppg.
Penn State has won four straight over the Hoosiers, including a 61-58 victory last year in State College, and would post its second-longest winning streak over a Big Ten opponent with a victory on Thursday.
