Women's Swimming & Diving Set For Weekend Meet at Ohio State

Jan. 29, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Following nearly a two week layoff, the Penn State women's swimming & diving team hits the road on Friday to face rival Ohio State in the first of a two-day meet. The Nittany Lions look to continue the momentum from a sweep of Pittsburgh, Maryland and Villanova on Jan. 15-16. Friday's action starts at 6 p.m. while Saturday kicks off at 12 p.m.

The squad will swim in its last regular season road meet of the season before returning home next Saturday (Feb. 6) to face Lehigh on Senior Day.

Highlighting the Jan. 15-16 sweep was once again freshman Amy Modglin. She finished with two "NCAA B" times, including a Trees Pool record in the 200 backstroke (1:57.49). That topped the previous 30+ year mark by over a second. Modglin was later honored with Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week and Big Ten Swimmer of the Week accolades. She now has a whopping nine "NCAA B" times and 13 first-place finishes in her young career.

A number of intriguing story lines are in place as both squads prepare for the upcoming Big Ten Championships at Purdue. Not only is Ohio State led by former Penn State head coach Bill Dorenkott, but the 28th nationally-ranked Buckeyes are also looking for their first unbeaten dual season in program history. They enter with a 6-0 mark. The Nittany Lions are 5-2.

Penn State is 12-1 all-time against Ohio State though, including last season's 196-132 win on Jan. 30-31 of last season.

Live results are scheduled to be available through the Ohio State athletic website. For a complete schedule of events, please see below.
