MICHIGAN STATE GAME TICKETS FEB. 13
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Feb. 11, 2010 - Whiteout conditions that have plagued the East Coast over the past week are expected to move inside the Bryce Jordan Center Saturday as The Nittany Lion basketball team takes on No. 10 ranked Michigan State (19-6; 9-3 Big Ten) in front of a national television audience on ESPN. More than 12,000 tickets had been distributed as of Wednesday for the noon tip as Penn State expects its largest crowd of the year for the game that features two of the best guards in the nation in Penn State's Talor Battle and Michigan State reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Kalin Lucas.
All fans are encouraged to wear white as the Nittany Lions look to post their third win against a Top 10 ranked Spartan in the teams' last five meetings. Fans will receive a Talor Battle figurine at the door while supplies.
It will also be Coaches Vs. Cancer Day at the arena with a silent auction featuring high level sports memorabilia such as: A Troy Polamalu autographed Steeler's football, a Joe Paterno autographed Wheaties cereal box, a Franco Harris autographed Pittsburgh Steelers jersey, a Tony LaRussa autographed St. Louis Cardinals jersey, a BMX Freestyle Bicycle autographed by Jamie Bestwick, a Shaun White, Olympic gold medalist, autographed skateboard and much, much more.
The Nittany Lions have upset a Top 10 ranked Michigan State team each of the last two seasons, including a 72-68 victory over the No. 9 Spartans in East Lansing last season. Battle posted a then career-high 29 points in that game and the current No. 2 leading scorer in the Big Ten is averaging 24.5 ppg and shooting 53 percent from the floor in his last two games vs. the Spartans.
Penn State (8-15; 0-11 Big Ten) will be looking for its first Big Ten win of the season. Battle enters the game as the only BCS conference player to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists and steals and will look to get continued help from fellow junior David Jackson who has scored in double-digits in a career-best five-straight games. Despite and 0-11 start to the conference season, Penn State trails only current Big Ten co-leader Illinois in the number of close conference contests having played six games decided by six points or less or in overtime.
Michigan State comes to the Jordan Center on a three-game losing skid having fallen at Wisconsin (67-49), Illinois (78-73) and most recently to No. 6 Purdue (76-64) at home. The Spartans are 5-4 away from the Breslin Center on the year and are led by Lucas who averages 15.4 ppg and 3.8 apg. The Spartans lead in the Big Ten in every rebounding category, but are eighth in scoring defense (64.9) and last in threes made per game (4.9).
