• Following a strong finish to the regular season, the Penn State women's swimming & diving team begins the Big Ten Championships at Purdue University on Wednesday. The championships begin with the 200 medley relay on Wednesday and conclude with the 400 freestyle relay on Saturday.
• The Nittany Lions look for their first Big Ten Championship since 2006 when they won their second of back-to-back titles.
• Penn State enters having won five consecutive dual meets, including on Jan. 29-30 when it topped No. 28 Ohio State to prevent the Buckeyes from their first undefeated dual season in program history.
• of all the action will be available on Purdue's official athletic site. The meet will also be broadcast via tape delay on the Big Ten Network. Airtime is set for Friday, Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. ET. For complete championship information, check out the Big Ten Championships web page.

CHAMPIONSHIP CHATTER
• Despite not winning a Big Ten Championship in four years, Penn State has still finished among the conference's best in that span - 2009 (third), 2008 (fourth) and 2007 (third). The Nittany Lions have finished no worse than fourth since the turn of the century.
• Since 2000, Penn State has finished: first (3X), second (2X), third (3X) and fourth (2X).
• The Nittany Lions impressed at No. 28 Ohio State from Jan. 29-30, finishing the weekend with seven "NCAA B" times, five individual and two relays. Four of those individual qualifiers came from senior Lyndsey Smith.
• The squad's scheduled Senior Meet against Lehigh for Feb. 6 had to be postponed due to winter weather. Instead, the Lions took part in an intrasquad meet while honoring its seniors at the conclusion.

MODGLIN IMPRESSES AS FRESHMAN
• Freshman Amy Modglin (Fort Myers, Fla.) has had a tremendous rookie season with a team-leading 10 "NCAA B" times - 6 in the 200 backstroke and 4 in the 400 IM.
• She was recognized on January 19 for her performance at the Pittsburgh Quad Meet by being named Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week, Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Penn State Student Athlete of the Week.
• Modglin won three events at Pittsburgh, including two "NCAA B" marks while also breaking more than a 30-year pool record in the 200 backstroke by over a second. Her mark of 1:57.49 topped the previous record of 1:58.83 held by Stanford's Linda Jezek since 1979.

SENIOR SMITH SPARKLES
• Senior captain Lyndsey Smith (Westminster, Md.) impressed at the Ohio State Invitational, winning all four individual events she swam, all coming in "NCAA B" times - her first four B times of the season.
• In addition, three of Smith's four times were among the top 10 marks in Penn State program history.
• She started on Friday by winning the 200 freestyle with a `B' time of 1:48.40. Incredibly, it marked her first freestyle race (of any distance, individual or relay) on the season. That mark was also good for eighth-best in program history.
• The same day, she finished the 200 breaststroke at a 2:15.86 clip for her second `B' time of the weekend.
• On Saturday, she won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.92) and 200 IM (2:01.48) while garnering `B' times in both events. Both marks were also among Penn State's top 10 times in program history, but are not officially on the list due to Smith swimming to even better marks in both events last season.
• She was named Penn State Student Athlete of the Week for her efforts.
