Baseball's Season-Opening Weekend Canceled Due to Snow

Feb. 17, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State baseball team learned on Wednesday that its season-opening weekend at Longwood University has been canceled due to snow pack. The Nittany Lions were scheduled to play a neutral site game against Coppin State this Saturday before facing host Longwood on Sunday. Southern Virginia has received a significant amount of snow in the past few weeks, which has made the field unplayable.

For the second straight season, Penn State will now open the regular season at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge in Florida. The Nittany Lions will face Cincinnati on Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. followed by two straight 10 a.m. tilts - Seton Hall on Saturday and Notre Dame on Sunday. The entire weekend will take place in the St. Petersburg/Clearwater area. Last year, the Lions went 2-1 with wins over Northwestern and Seton Hall, becoming one of only six Big Ten squads to post a winning record.
