No. 52 Men's Tennis Host Cornell and Lafayette This Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The 52nd-ranked Penn State men's tennis team (7-1, 0-0) will continue its homestand this weekend with matches vs. Cornell and Lafayette. Both matches can be followed via a live stats link on GoPSUSports.com.

The Nittany Lions will take on the Big Red on Saturday at noon. Penn State will Lafayette on Sunday at 5 p.m. Action will take place at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center and admission is free. There will also be free pizza at the match on Saturday vs. Cornell.

Last Time Out: Penn State finished the weekend of Feb. 13-14 with a perfect 3-0 record. The Nittany Lions garnered a 6-1 victory over Buffalo on Feb. 13 and followed up the next day with a pair 7-0 victories over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies and the Bucknell Bison. Junior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia) picked up two victories over the weekend, including a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory over 108th-ranked Wojciech Starakiewicz of Buffalo. Senior Ryan Gormley (Las Vegas, Nev.), sophomore Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia) and senior Guillaume St-Maurice (Saint-Eustache, Quebec) each picked up three singles victories on the weekend.

Scouting Cornell: The Big Red is coming off two victories on Saturday, Feb. 20 over Buffalo and Fairleigh Dickinson. Cornell has won three matches in a row and have won five of its last six, with two of them being 7-0 victories.

All-Time vs. the Big Red: Cornell holds a commanding 26-9 advantage in the all-time series with these two teams. Last season, Penn State picked up a 6-1 victory over the Big Red. The last time Cornell defeated Penn State was on Feb. 7, 2004, when the Big Red snatched the 5-2 victory.

Scouting Lafayette: The Leopards have a 2-2 record heading into matches this weekend with West Chester and Penn State. Lafayette picked up two 7-0 wins over Rider and Wagner early in the season.

All-Time vs. the Leopards: Penn State holds a 7-2 edge all-time vs. Lafayette. The two teams last met up on Feb. 19, 2006 when the Nittany Lions downed the Leopards, 7-0.

What's Next: Penn State opens Big Ten season on March 7 with an 11 a.m. match up with Purdue at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center. The Nittany Lions will head down south on March 11 for a dual with Coastal Carolina.
