Following the first round of play at the Low Country Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., the women's golf team is currently in ninth place. The Nittany Lions carded a 327, leaving them at +39 on the day.
Freshmen Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) and Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) led Penn State in the opening round. Seo and Ransone each notched a first round score of 81, putting them in a tie for 29th. Junior Victoria Arena (Lansdale, Pa.), competing as an individual, matched the freshmen with an 81 of her own.
Junior Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) finished third on the team with an 82 and a tie for 38th place on the first day. Juniors Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) and Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) followed close behind with Carando notching an 83 and Fanelli an 84, leaving them in a tie for 44th and a tie for 48th respectively.
The rest of the Nittany Lions competed in the tournament as individuals. Behind Arena, freshman Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) matched Malcolmson's 82 and senior Lindsay Cullen (Allen, Texas) finished the day with an 84.
Tournament host Western Carolina is currently in the lead with a 304 in the first round, +16. There are currently four players tied for first place as they all recorded a score of a 74 (+2) in the first round.
The second and final round of the tournament will take place tomorrow, March 14, at 9:30a.m.
