After two rounds of golf at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C., the Penn State women's golf team finished +63, with a 639 (327-312). The Nittany Lions ended the tournament in eighth place overall, their third best finish of the season.
Freshman Hanule Seo's (St. Louis, Mo.) 71 in the second round tied a team-best single round for the season and is now her career best. Her seventh place finish (81-71=152) in the tournament was the team's second best finish of the year, behind freshman Emily Ransone's (Hilliard, Ohio) first place finish at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
Ransone followed Seo with a +15, 159 (81-78) in the two rounds and a tie for 18th place. The three juniors rounded out the field for the Nittany Lions, with Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) carding a 163 (82-81), leaving her in a tie for 35th place. Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) followed with a 165 (83-82) and Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished one stroke behind with a 166 (84-82).
Five Nittany Lions competed as individuals with freshman Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) matching Fanelli's 166 for a tie for 40th. Freshman Courtney Kordes (Natrona Heights, Pa.) recorded a career-best round of 79 on the second day of play and finished the tournament with a 169.
Tournament host Western Carolina won the team championship with a 616 (304-312) at +40. Natalie Wille of Augusta State won the individual title after a three-hole playoff with Richmond's Jillian Fraccola. Wille posted a 149 (74-75), leaving her at +5 for the tournament.
The Nittany Lions will have a break before competing at the Canes and Cardinals Classic in Miami, Fla. on Monday and Tuesday, April 5 and 6.
