April 14, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lions will take the course again after an eighth place finish at the Canes and Cardinal Classic in Miami, Fla., their last time out. Penn State will return to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the 30th annual Lady Buckeye Invitational after finishing ninth there last season. The tournament will be hosted by Ohio State and will consist of two rounds on the first day of play, with the third and final round on the second day.

"We are excited about going back to Ohio State," head coach Denise St. Pierre said. "It will be great preparation for Big Tens."

Six Nittany Lions will be making the trip to the Lady Buckeye in the play six, count four format. Junior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) will lead Penn State after her fourth place finish last week, earning her Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week. She averages 79.0 strokes this season. Freshman Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) will bring her 77.9 strokes-per-round average to Columbus and will start in her ninth tournament for the Nittany Lions.

Senior Lindsay Cullen (Allen, Texas) and junior Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) will be the other two upperclassmen to make the trip. Malcolmson was the top finisher for the Nittany Lions in this tournament last season, ending in a tie for 26th place. Freshmen Courtney Kordes (Natrona Heights, Pa.) and Jamie Lavin (Deerfield, Ill.) round out the starting lineup for the Lions.

The field will consist of 12 schools, nine of which are from the Big Ten. The tournament will be played on the par 72, 6,275-yard Scarlet Course at The Ohio State University Golf Club. An 8:30 a.m. shotgun start will start both days of the tournament. The first two rounds will be played on April 17 with the third and final round taking place on April 18.
