The remaining four groups rallied through the morning rain to complete the second round of the 34th annual Rutherford Intercollegiate. The Nittany Lions prolonged their first-place position with a second-round, 299, carding a two-round 291-299, 590 total. The Nittany Lions remain ahead of the field by seven strokes with closest competitor Ohio University at 597.
Senior Kevin Foley (Somerville, N.J.) wrapped up the second round shooting in the final group with a 1-over-par. Foley leads the tournament with a 70-72 (142). Foley's 2-stroke advantage over Mark Edmonson of Temple places him in the running for the Penn State all-time leader in first-place finishes with a potential six. Foley currently sits tied with former Nittany Lion Robert Rohanna with five collegiate-career tournament titles.
Senior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) enters the final round tied for eighth with back-to-back three-over-par performances to secure a 148. Junior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) shot an 8-over-par, 79 second-round score to tie for 10th. Senior Jim Markovitz (Bridgecille, Pa.) and freshman Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) wrapped up the Nittany Lion team scores tied in the 36th position with totals of 155. Markovitz carded rounds of 77-78 while Marin fired a 5-stroke improvement to card an 80-75 total.
Freshman Matthew Porter leads the way for the Nittany Lion individual participants, firing a 6-over-par two-round total, 72-76 (148). Porter enters the shotgun round tied for eighth. Pittsburgh native, Brendan Borst (Pittsburgh, Pa.) completed his second round at 10-over-par, 77-75 (152). Borst's 2-stroke improvement places him tied at 21. Sophomore John Burke (Bay Village, Ohio) tied for 24 with a card of 78-75 (159). Rounding out for Penn State at 17-over-par is junior Jason Cohan (Wayne, Pa.) and sophomore Nick Archambault (Q.C., Canada). Cohan carded rounds of 84-75 while Archambault carded rounds of 82-77.
