UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State baseball team is proud to host its first annual Wounded Warrior Benefit Game on Saturday at 2:05 p.m. against Michigan State. The game was developed to help create awareness of wounded warriors and their sacrifices while providing useful services to meet the needs of severely injured service members and their families.
"First and foremost I have seen firsthand what the Wounded Warrior Project has done for soldiers and their families, so I look forward to helping the WWP raise money and awareness," said Chris Swales, a State College native, Army veteran and Penn State Ability Athlete. "Disabilities only make stronger athletes and you're still an athlete no matter what happens to you."
Fans can make a difference as one dollar of each single game and group ticket will be donated to the Wounded Warrior project. Saturday is also the first of three 4 for $24 ticket promotions where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for only $24.
There will also be a silent auction on the concourse, with every penny donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. Special Penn State Baseball Camo T-Shirts will be available as well for only $10 with $4 going to Swales to help him compete and travel to his competitions. Donations will also be accepted on the concourse.
The Nittany Lions will be wearing specially designed camo jerseys, with a select few of the game-worn jerseys available to fans via auction. The jerseys of Jordan Steranka and Ryan Ignas are currently up for auction while seven other player jerseys - Joey DeBernardis, Sean Deegan, Ben Heath, Neal Herring, David Lutz, Louie Picconi and Mike Wanamaker - will be among the many great silent auction items at Saturday's game.
Other auction items include an Autographed Joe Paterno football, Shane Victorino autographed Phillies hat, Andre Iguodala autographed 76ers jersey, batting practice on the field before a Penn State baseball game and much more.
Swales, who suffered injuries while serving in the army, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
"I'm really looking forward to just seeing the view from the mound and seeing all the people who care enough to help soldiers start the path to living their lives again," said Swales. "What we are doing on Saturday will impact peoples' lives more than we could ever know."

The Nittany Lions remain home to conclude a seven-game homestand with consecutive weekend series against Michigan State and Iowa. Penn State hosts the Spartans this weekend on Friday (6:35 p.m.), Saturday (2:05 p.m.) and Sunday (1:05 p.m.). Saturday is also the first Wounded Warrior Benefit Game to honor and empower wounded warriors. Its purpose is to raise awareness and to enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service members, to help severely injured men and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.
