Women's Golf Team to Play in UNCG Classic

UNCG Classic Notes

Coming off of a fourth place finish at the Cincinnati Classic, the Penn State women's golf team will head to Greensboro, N.C., to take part in the UNCG Classic. The tournament is hosted by UNC Greensboro and will be played from Sept. 26-28.

"I am looking forward to this tournament; the field will be tougher but I feel the team is starting to see some consistency from top to bottom," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "A good finish will give the team added confidence for their home invitational."

Senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) will lead the Nittany Lions into the tournament after finishing in fourth place at the Cincinnati Classic. She currently leads the team with her 75.5 strokes-per-round average. Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) will also make the trip with her average of 76.2 on the season.

Seniors Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) and Brianna Malcolmson (Murwillumbah, Australia) are also in the starting lineup, along with sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.). Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) will compete as an individual for Penn State.

The 15-team tournament will be played at Bryan Park's Players Course, as opposed to the original site of the Starmount Forest Country Club do to course issues. The tournament will consist of 54 holes over the course of three days. The tournament will begin with at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 26, with a shotgun start.
