Oct. 1, 2010

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State senior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia) has been selected to play in the D'Novo/ITA All-American championships in Tulsa, Okla. The tournament will be held from Oct. 2-10, but Bourchier will begin his qualifying play on Oct. 4. The tournament features the top players in the country.

Entering this weekend, Bourchier is ranked 74th in the ITA Preseason rankings. He is coming off a strong showing at the Farnsworth/Princeton Fall Invitational two weekends ago, earning championships in singles and doubles. In Flight "A" doubles action, Bourchier teamed up with junior Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia) and came out victorious as they defeated Penn's Eugen Brazdil and Lucas Andreika, 8-6 in the championship match. In singles action, Bourchier earned an upset victory over Yale's Marc Powers, 6-3, 6-2, who was the No. 1 seed in the bracket. For that weekend, Bourchier tallied a total of eight victories, a tournament best.

Bourchier, who earned All-Big Ten honors last season, had a stellar year playing primarily in the No. 1 bout for the Nittany Lions. Finishing ranked 102nd in the ITA National Singles Rankings, the then junior went an impressive 15-7 last year, including 11-7 in the No. 1 spot. Bourchier faced-off with nine ranked opponents last season and went 5-4 against those foes. The Australian native holds a 62-37 career record with the Nittany Lions.

Bourchier also put together a stellar season in doubles action as well. He teamed up with Guillaume St-Maurice last year as they finished the season 4-4 as a team with two big doubles victories over ranked opponents, earning them a No. 58 national ranking.

The Nittany Lions will head to the ITA Regional Championships on Oct. 14-18 in Charlottesville, Va. The squad will close the fall season at the Big Ten Singles tournament from Oct. 28-Nov. 1.
