UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis will close the fall season this weekend in East Lansing, Mich. at Big Ten Indoors. Competition will begin on Friday at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
The Nittany Lions will send junior Jason Lee (Melbourne, Australia), junior Chris Hasyn (Lansdale, Pa.), sophomore Bryan Welnetz (Laredo, Texas), sophomore C.J. Griffin (Portland, Mich.), sophomore Guanhua Chen (DaLian, China), freshman Harry Seaborn (North Penn, N.Y.) and freshman Russell Bader (Austin, Texas) to East Lansing.
The Nittany Lions had a successful outing at last year's Big Ten event, capturing two doubles titles. Lee and then-junior Eddie Bourchier (Hobart, Australia) picked up four doubles wins on the first day of the tournament to capture the Flight "A" doubles crown. Additionally, Guillaume St-Maurice and then-sophomore Taylor Cohen (Philadelphia, Pa.) turned in a dominant performance as well as they captured the "B" flight doubles championship. Lee also made a semifinals appearance in singles at last year's tournament.
Penn State is coming off a very successful weekend last week in Charlottesville, Va. at the ITA Atlantic Regionals. The Nittany Lions advanced one player in Bourchier to the singles quarterfinals and one doubles team in Bourchier and Lee to the doubles quarterfinal.
Penn State will begin dual match play on Jan. 23 with a doubleheader matchup at home with St. Bonaventure and Lehigh. First serve is set for 10 a.m. against the Bonnies. The Nittany Lions will then travel to Princeton on Jan. 29 before returning home the next day to host Army.
