UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -

Notes for the Lady Northern

The Penn State women's golf team is coming off of a victory at its home course last week at the 2010 Nittany Lion Invitational. The victory marked the first since the 2008 Bucknell Invitational and the first Nittany Lion Invitational win since 2006. The Lions will look to continue that success at the Lady Northern Invitational in Glencoe, Ill. The tournament, hosted by Northwestern, will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 11-12.

"The team is coming off a win from the home Invitational and feels good about how they are coming together as a team," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "We are looking forward to the Northern and hope to continue with the consistent performances we have had."

Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) currently leads the team with her 74.8 strokes-per-round average. She finished in second place at last weekend's Nittany Lion Invitational. She will join sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) and her 76.5 average as the two second year players in the starting lineup.

Senior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) will join senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) as the upperclassmen in the tournament. Fanelli is currently third on the team with a 76.4 average. Freshmen Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) and Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) will make the trip to Chicago. Ceresko will be making her third start of the season with a 75.2 strokes-per-round average.

"This will be our first test of Big Ten competition for the 2010-11 season," said St. Pierre. "We are looking forward to the new venue as Northwestern will be hosting for the first time."

The tournament will be composed of 12 teams and will be played at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. There 54 holes played, with 36 on the first day and 18 on the second day. The format is play five and count four. There will be numerous Big Ten schools in the tournament, including last year's Big Ten champion Purdue Boilermakers. The tournament will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday.
