Penn State Men's Golf Team Tied for Fourth at Royal Oaks Intercollegiate After Two Rounds

DALLAS - The Penn State men's golf team is tied for fourth place at the conclusion of the first day at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas.

Penn State and SMU share the fourth place position after two rounds. Both teams shot rounds of 285-280 (565). First place Iowa has a 14-stroke lead over Penn State and SMU with a two round total of 551 (276-275).

Senior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa) leads Penn State with a 5-under par, two-round total of 137 (70-67). Howe improved play by three strokes in the second round to place him tied for seventh going into the second day of competition. Howe is currently 5 strokes behind first place Vince India from Iowa. India shot two rounds of 66 to give him a first day total of 132.

In his season debut, sophomore Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) proved himself on the field, shooting rounds of 70-69 to place him tied for 11 at 3-under par. Sophomore Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) and freshman Michael Miller (Brewster, N.Y.) are tied for 34 at 3-over par and a two-round total of 145. Marin improved play between the two rounds carding rounds of 75-70. Miller shot rounds of 71-74. Senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) sits tied for 56 with rounds of 74-76 (150).
