The women's golf team had a strong finish at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue, posting a 300 on the final day. This left them with a three-round score of 938 (317-321-300) and a 16th place finish. The Nittany Lions were tied for the sixth-best third round among all teams. They were the most improved team as well, shaving 21 strokes from their second round score in Rio Grande, P.R.
Sophomore Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) made a jump on the final day, shooting a 74 and tying a season-best round. This left her with a 15-over-par 231 (77-80-74) and a tie for 38th place. Sophomore Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) followed two strokes behind Seo, finishing the tournament with a score of 233 (77-79-77) for a 17-over-par. She finished in a tie for 43rd place.
Freshman Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) also had an improved third day, carding a 74 in the final round. This left her with a score of 239 (84-81-74) and a tie for 75th place. Senior Gia Fanelli (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished strong, shooting a 75 on the final day contributing to a three-round score of 241.
Senior Giulia Carando (Torino, Italy) also competed for the Nittany Lions, shooting a total score of 254, while freshman Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) competed as an individual shot a 242 in the three rounds.
The University of Alabama, ranked No. 1, won the tournament with an 11-over-par 875 (286-298-291). Alabama's Stephanie Meadow won the individual title, carding a 4-under-par 212 (73-70-69).
The women's golf team will have a break before competing in the Rio Verde Invitational from March 4-6. The tournament is hosted by Western Michigan and will take place in Rio Verde, Ariz.
