GAME NOTES
LAST TIME OUT: Penn State traveled to No. 1 Georgia on Thursday night to help make up games that were lost due to rain, but fell 8-0 to the Bulldogs. On Tuesday, the Nittany Lions downed Kennesaw State, 2-1, in eight innings behind a two-run homer from Cassidy Bell (Bakersfield, Calif.) and a strong pitching performance by Jackie Hill (San Jose, Calif.). PSU would fall in its next game to Georgia Tech, 2-0, at Kennesaw State as Hope Rush earned the win and hit a home run for the Yellow Jackets.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS: Bowling Green (2-10) has had a tough time with the weather as well as the Falcons had numerous games in its Spring Break in Tennessee and Kentucky called off. The Falcons defeated Western Kentucky, 6-3, and fell at Middle Tennessee State, 7-5, in mid-week games. BGSU has three pitchers, Zada Lines (2-1, 2.07 ERA), Melissa Bott (0-4, 4.42 ERA) and Erin Greenwalt (0-5, 7.75 ERA) this season, while Hannah Fulk leads the Falcons at the plate with a .400 batting average. Paige Berger is the team's run producer with 7 RBI off three homers, two doubles and a .289 average.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: Georgia State (9-11) competed in the Buzz Classic last week going 2-1 by beating Miami of Ohio twice, 4-2 and 7-3 sandwiching a 3-0 loss to UAB. The Panthers' most dangerous hitter is Lauren Jones, a .288 hitter who has 17 hits with three doubles, four homers and a team-high 13 RBI year. The team's ace is McCall Langford who is 3-5 this year with a 2.59 ERA in nine starts. GSU also employs three other pitchers at various times with Kaitlyn Medlam being the most successful pitcher with a 3-1 record and a 2.53 ERA.

SCOUTING THE BRUINS: Belmont (5-11) broke a five-game losing streak by splitting a doubleheader with SIU Edwardsville this past Wednesday. The Bruins have struggled on both sides of the ball as the team is hitting just .208 at the plate while being out-scored, 107-51. Belmont's team ERA is 6.41 as the team's ace Devon Schmidt (5-5, 3.45) has carried much of the load, throwing 50.2 innings. No Bruin batter is over .300, but Ashley Byers (.293) is the team's leader in runs (7), hits (12), doubles (4), homers (5) and RBI (13).

NEXT TIME OUT: PSU returns to action on Thursday when the Nittany Lions participate in the prestigious Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton. Penn State will face off against nationally ranked Oklahoma, Fresno State, and Arizona State, while also playing Pacific and Boise State. The Garman Classic is PSU's final non-conference tournament of 2011.
