WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.; April 23, 2011 - The Penn State women's tennis team (6-14, 2-7) lost to the No. 68 Purdue Boilermakers 6-1 on Saturday. Sophomore Petra Januskova (Ottawa, Canada) earned the lone point for the Lions defeating Jennifer Rabot. The win marked the team leading 14th singles victory for the sophomore and her fourth win in five matches.

In doubles, Januskova and senior Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) fell in first doubles to the No. 54 ranked duo of Jennifer Rabot and Mara Schmidt, 8-4. In second doubles, Purdue's Anna Duskina and Gisella Pere defeated sophomore Amy Simidian (Carlstadt, N.J.) and freshman Marie-Frederique Bedard (Montreal, Canada), 8-4, to give the Boilermakers the doubles point. Freshman Carmen Sandor (Toronto, Canada) and junior Fernanda Perrotta (Buenos Aires, Argentina) battled hard against Imogen Golden and Bhavani Tirumurti, but eventually fell, 9-8.

Play moved to singles as Bedard fell in straight sets to Golder in fifth singles, 6-0, 6-1, to give Purdue the 2-0 advantage. With a 2-0 deficit, Sandor fought hard in fourth doubles against Anna Duskina, but fell in two sets, 6-3, 6-1, to push the Boilermaker lead to 3-0. In third doubles, Zobeideh could not keep the Nittany Lions alive as she fell to Purdue's Schmidt, 6-3, 6-0, to clinch the match for the Purdue Boilermakers.

The Nittany Lions continued to fight however, as Simidian forced Tirumurti to three sets but eventually fell in second singles, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0. In sixth singles, Perrotta stayed close with Gisella Pere, but lost in two sets, 6-4, 6-2.

In first singles, Januskova earned the lone point for the Nittany Lions as she defeated Jennifer Rabot, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0, to end the match at 6-1. Rabot had been ranked for much of the season and recently defeated Northwestern's No. 13 Maria Mosolova. Januskova earned her team leading 14th singles win and her fourth victory in five matches. She is currently ranked No. 2 in the Atlantic region, according to the ITA.

The Nittany Lions will remain in Indiana as they play their final dual match of the season tomorrow against the Indiana Hoosiers at 12 p.m. Penn State will begin postseason play as they travel to Ann Arbor for the Big Ten Championships.
