Penn State Leads Through First Round at Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The first round of the Rutherford Intercollegiate was completed Saturday morning after inclement weather forced play to be suspended Friday. Penn State tops the leader board with a first-round score of 290, placing the Nittany Lions 10 strokes ahead of the second-place tie shared by Towson and Delaware.

Senior T.J. Howe (Osceola, Pa.) leads Penn State shooting a 1-under par 70 in the first round. Howe is tied for first with Delaware's Justin Martinson. Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) trails Howe by two strokes, carding a 1-over par 72 to tie for fourth. Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) concluded the first round tied for seventh, shooting a 73. Sophomores Ernesto Marin (Miami, Fla.) and Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) shot 75 and 79, respectively, to wrap up the first round for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State has three golfers competing individually. Junior Nick Archambault (Q.C., Canada) made his season debut shooting a 9-over par 80 to tie him for 63. Junior John Burke (Bay Village, Ohio) and sophomore Matthew Porter (Cortland, N.Y.) are tied for 41 with a first-round total of 78.
