UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; Sept. 10, 2011 - The Penn State field hockey team hosts the Quinnipiac Bobcats this Sunday at noon at the Penn State field hockey complex. The first 200 fans in attendance at the game will receive an American Pride t-shirt, in honor the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11.
Penn State is coming off a tough 4-3 loss to the No. 13 Princeton Tigers on Thursday. Despite having a 2-0 lead early, the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions were unable to hold on. Senior Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) had two goals for the Nittany Lions in the loss. Sophomore Whitney Reddig (Lititz, Pa.) also added two assists in the game, both coming on penalty corners.
Penn State has been no stranger to finding the back of the cage this year, as it ranks third in the Big Ten in goals scored with 14 (2.8 pg). The Nittany Lions also rank second in the conference in total assists, with 13. Amy has been Penn State's main threat in the four games she has appeared in, averaging 2.0 points per game, good for fourth in the conference.
Kaitlyn Notarianni leads the way for Quinnipiac as she has scored in the last three games for the Bobacats, including Quinnipiac's only goal in a 6-1 loss to nationally-ranked No. 14 Boston College before scoring the game-winning goal against Yale last week. Notarianni also had an assist on the game-tying goal against Yale and has now scored in all four of Quinnipiac's games this season. Also, sophomore Jess Russin is coming off a hat trick against Colgate.
This will be the first ever matchup between the Bobcats and Nittany Lions.
Following Quinnipiac, Penn State will hit the road next weekend to take on Duke and Virginia Commonwealth. The Nittany Lions will then return home on Sept. 22 to host Temple.
