Women's Golf Finishes Cardinal Cup in Fifth Place

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. - The Penn State women's golf team matched its first-round score in the second and final round of play at the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup, hosted by Louisville, finishing the tournament in fifth place out of 14 teams competing. The Nittany Lions carded a 34-over-par 610 (305-305) at the par-72 Cardinal Club Course, which marked a tie for the 16th-best 36-hole score in school history.

Sophomore Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) finished tied for sixth place with a 3-over-par on the second day and a final score of 150 (75-75). The sixth-place finish was the second-best of Ceresko's career as she finished in a tie for fifth place at the Starmount Fall Classic last season.

Freshman Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) competed as an individual and tied for 17th place with a score of 152 (76-76). Sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) matched that score with rounds of 74 and 78.

Freshman Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) carded a 77 in the final round and finished the tournament one stroke behind Vosters with a 153, which tied her for 23rd place. Junior Hanule Seo (St. Louis, Mo.) tied for 41st place as she was 4-over-par on the second day and tallied a score of 156. Classmate Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) rounded out the Nittany Lion field with a total of 164 (87-77) strokes.

North Carolina State held on to win the tournament title with a 596 (296-300). East Carolina's Julia Strandberg won the individual title as she notched a 1-over-par 145 (75-70).

The Penn State women's golf team will be back in action on Sept. 30 when it hosts the 36th Nittany Lion Invitational in State College, Pa. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will last until Oct. 2.
