TOLEDO, Ohio - The Penn State men's golf team took sixth with a single-round score of 300 at the Inverness Intercollegiate at the Inverness Club on Tuesday.
Due to heavy rain Sunday night, both rounds that were scheduled for Monday, Sept. 26, had to be cancelled, shortening the tournament to a single round. Golfers were finally able to tee-off Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m.
Leading Penn State to a sixth place finish, was junior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) who posted a 1-over-par 72 to place tied for 7 overall. Following right behind DeGol with a score of 73 was senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) who finished tied for 13. Sophomore Shane Stewart (Dublin, Ohio) carded six bogeys and one birdie in his round of 76, tying him for 32. In his collegiate debut, freshman Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) carded a 79 to tie for 54. Junior Jay Woodward(Bridgeport, W.Va.) rounded off the lineup tied for 65 with a score of 81.
No. 31 Kent State took first with a team score of 287, while Toledo's Doug Murphy took first on the individual leader board with a 5-under-par 66.
