Following the first day of competition, the Penn State women's golf team is in 11th place out of 12 teams competing in the Lady Northern Invitational hosted by Indiana. The Nittany Lions carded a two-round score of 27-over-par for a 623 (312-311) on the par-71, 6,037-yard Donald Ross Course at the French Lick Resort.
Freshman Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) and sophomore Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) had the best scores on the team. Elliott carded a 155 (79-76), while Vosters matched that as she notched rounds of 76 and 79. They are currently tied for 35th place.
Freshman Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Que.) finished the first day in a tie for 45th place as she was two strokes behind Elliott and Vosters with a 15-over-par (80-77). Junior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) is in 49th place with a 158 (79-79) through two rounds. Freshman Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) rounded out the field for the Nittany Lions with a 160 (78-82).
Penn State finished the first two rounds ahead of fellow Big Ten team Minnesota. Ohio State led all teams with a 15-over-par 583 (293-290). The Buckeyes' Kendall Prince carded a 2-under-par 140 (73-67) and is the top individual.
The final round of play will begin Tuesday (Oct. 11) with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
