UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - Penn State Director of Athletics Tim Curley has announced the hiring of Charmelle Green as Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator. Green most recently was the Senior Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Welfare & Development at the University of Notre Dame.
Green will begin her duties at Penn State in mid-July. She replaces Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator Susan Delaney-Scheetz, who retired March 31.
"I am honored and thrilled to be joining the Penn State Athletics department," said Green. "I have long admired the institution for its tradition, integrity and pride. I look forward to working with the entire Athletics staff as we work to meet the mission of the University."
Most recently the head of the Office of Student-Athlete Welfare & Development and the sport administrator for women's swimming & diving, Green has spent the past six years in Notre Dame's athletic administration. During that time, she oversaw the student development program, with the mission of providing a balanced Notre Dame experience for student-athletes by focusing on five key areas: academic excellence, athletic success, career preparation, community involvement and personal development.
Green was also the advisor to the women's rugby program and was the liaison to the Faculty Board on Athletics. She has served on numerous university and conference committees, including the Equity in Athletics Task Force, the Black Faculty and Staff Association, the Big East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships Committee, and the University committees on Strategic Communication and Community Engagement, among others. During the summer of 2009 & 2010, Green was an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University South Bend.
"Charmelle will be an exceptional addition to our staff and brings a strong, student-athlete centered professional background to Penn State," Curley said. "Charmelle understands what the pillars of Success with Honor are, as well as what it takes to accomplish our athletic and academic missions at Penn State. I have no doubt she will carry on the tradition of excellent leadership we have had in this position in the past. We welcome Charmelle to the Nittany Lion family and are excited for her to get started."

Prior to joining athletic administration at Notre Dame, Green was an assistant softball coach from 2001-05. During her tenure on the coaching staff, the Fighting Irish were selected for the NCAA Tournament four times and won four Big East Conference regular season championships. The two-time Big East tournament champions, the Notre Dame staff was twice named Regional Coaching Staff of the Year and were also named Big East Coaching Staff of the Year. Three position players earned All-America honors during Green's time on the Notre Dame staff.
Green's coaching experience also included two years at Syracuse (1999-2001), where she helped start the Orange's softball program, and a year at Colorado State (1998-99).
An All-American softball player at the University of Utah, Green spent time in Salt Lake City after graduation working as a recreation program coordinator from 1995-98. Among her notable achievements was raising more than $700,000 in annual revenue. She was also an integral part of developing an advisory board for the development of an inner-city school for the arts.
A Western Athletic Conference standout, Green was a two-time softball All-American, earning both first-team (1990) and second-team (1991) accolades during her career at Utah. She led the Utes to back-to-back conference titles in 1990 and '91. Green was named WAC Player of the Year as well as the school's Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year following her senior season. She was inducted into the University of Utah's Hall of Fame in 2001 and was also named one of the University's Top 25 Greatest Athletes. Green is also enshrined in the State of Utah's Softball Hall of Fame as well as the Hall of Fame at Mt. Miguel High School in Spring Valley, Calif.
A 1991 Utah graduate with a degree in mass communications/public relations, Green earned a masters degree in secondary education in 2003 from IU South Bend.
