UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - With just two weeks remaining before the February 1 deadline for Nittany Lion Club contributions, which allow fans to qualify for 2012 season football ticket and parking benefits, Penn State Athletics reminds NLC members that only those who have provided the required NLC gift amount by the deadline will secure their current seats and be eligible to participate in the online seat selection process, scheduled to begin on March 1.
The pricing of football game tickets and accompanying donation levels will remain the same as in 2011. Currently, NLC donations are tracking ahead of 2011 gifts received by this time last year.
Without receipt of a 2012 gift by February 1, the athletic ticket office cannot assign a seat selection time for NLC members to enter the online Virtual Venue® at their assigned time and secure their seats. The seat selection process is done in NLC priority point order, with highest point total members selecting first.
"The best way to meet the overall expectations of our Nittany Lion Club membership, as well as maintain the highest level of integrity in our NLC point system, is to make sure that those who comply with the annual deadlines are not delayed or put at a disadvantage in the seat selection process by those who don't meet the deadline," explained NLC Major Gift and Annual Fund Director John Nitardy.
In other words, fans who had season tickets in 2011 and have not made their gift for 2012 by the February 1 date will relinquish their 2011 seat locations. This makes those seat locations available to those who responded by the deadline in the seat selection process. Those responding after the deadline will become eligible to select different locations upon submitting their 2012 gift to the NLC and getting a later assigned time.
In addition to assuring that current NLC members are reminded of the February 1 deadline, Penn State Athletics also reminds fans who may be interested in securing season tickets for the first time that they can purchase tickets or get their questions answered today by calling an athletic department ticket representative at 1-800-NITTANY (648-8269).
The 2012 season will be the first under the direction of new head coach Bill O'Brien, who -- in addition to taking the reins of the Nittany Lion program -- is currently finishing the NFL post-season as Offensive Coordinator of the New England Patriots.
The Nittany Lions shared the Big Ten Leaders Division title with Wisconsin and finished with a 9-4 mark during the 2011 season. Penn State played in its fourth consecutive New Year's bowl game and 44th overall. The Nittany Lions' 827 all-time victories rank No. 5 in the nation and their 27 bowl wins are third-highest.
Penn State opens its 126th season on Sept. 1. The Nittany Lions will host Ohio State, Wisconsin, Northwestern (Oct. 6-Homecoming), Indiana, Navy, Temple and Ohio University in Beaver Stadium this fall.
