FRENCH LICK, Ind. - After the third round of the Big Ten Championship at the 7,152-yard, par-72 Pete Dye Course hosted at the French Lick Resort, the Nittany Lions improve to sixth place after shooting a tournament-best round of 299. .

Penn State holds a three round total 908 (308-301-299), 24 strokes behind first place Illinois. The Fighting Illini, who held on to the first place position from the conclusion of the second round, have a three-round total of 884 (301-291-292). They have a seven-stroke advantage over second place Indiana who has a three-round total of 891 (293-304-294).

Junior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W.Va.) came out big for Penn State in the third round. Woodward shot a 1-over-par 73 to place him tied for 24th with a three-round total of 229 (80-76-73).

Senior Tommy McDonagh (East Norwalk, Conn.) and junior Anthony DeGol (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) posted rounds of 75 to bring their scores to 231 (81-75-75) and 225 (73-75-77), respectively. McDonagh is tied for 31st and DeGol is tied for 14th.

Freshman Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) added a third-round score of 76 to his total, bringing him to a 233 (81-76-76). McDonald-Smith will go into the third round placed tied for 37th.

Freshman Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) brought his three round total to 230 with a score of 82. Talbert is tied for 27th.

The final rounds will take place at 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
