Penn State Swimming Sends 34 to U.S. Olympic Trials

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State swimming will have 34 current, former and future student-athletes participate in the United States Olympic Trials hosted by the Qwest Center in Omaha, Neb. from June 25 to July 2.

The Nittany Lion contingent features eight alumni including recent graduates Mitch Scherer, Scott Marino and Sam Palser. Scherer (100 and 200 Breast), Marino (200 and 400 IM) and Palser (50 free) completed their Nittany Lion careers on March. Twenty-six Penn State student-athletes currently on the team or about to join the squad in August fill out the Nittany Lion roster at the U.S. Trials.

In March, two incoming Nittany Lions, Alyson Ackman (Pointe Claire, Quebec) and Matt Grillo (Montreal, Quebec), competed in the Canadian Olympic Trials. Ackman qualified for the trials in five freestyle events: 50, 100, 200, 400 and 800, while Grillo earned berths into the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle competitions.
