Women's Golf Sees Summer Success

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Seven members of the Penn State women's golf team saw notable success during the summer months. The team begins their fall season on Sept. 9-11 in the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C.

Senior Emily Ransone (Hilliard, Ohio) captured the Delaware Women's Amateur Championship in June at Hartefeld National Golf Club. Ransone finished with a three day total of 6-under-par 210 (69-68-73). She carded 13 birdies and one eagle in three rounds. Her teammate, junior Christa Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) finished in second place behind Ransone at 227 (75-75-77). Ransone also qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur.

Sophomore Elyse Archambault (St-Jean-sur-Rich, Quebec) captured the amateur championship at the Nivo Women's Provincial Match Play Championship on Aug. 13-14 at the Hillsdale Golf Club. After an earlier opponent forfeited her match, Archambault went directly to the semifinal match where she defeated her opponent 3 & 2.

Sophomore Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ontario) finished eighth in the 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Junior Girls Championship, which was held at the River Spirit Golf Club in Calgary. She finished 10 over par to go 75-74-73-76 - 298 at the tournament. Her classmate, Erin Michel (Mason, Ohio) won the 97th Annual Metropolitan Women's Amateur Championship at the Maketewah Coutry Club. Michel went 3 & 2 against her opponents in three of the four rounds, including the finals, and was 2 up to defeat her semifinal opponent.

Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) won the Pennsylvania State Amateur Championship on Aug. 17. She ended the tournament defeating Kate Scarpetta of Princeton after 21 holes to capture the title. Freshman Grace Chung (Ontario, Canada) won both the Junior Spring Classic Girls Championship in May, as well as the CJGA Mizuno National Championship at the Grey Silo Golf Course. At the Spring Classic, Chung came from behind for the win and closed out the tournament with a total score of 224 (78-74-72,+8), for a two stroke victory. At the CJGA Mizuno National Championship, Chung finished shooting 72 (+1) in the final round for a dour day total of 294 (+10).
