UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After defeating the Temple Owls and the Cornell Big Red, the No. 6 Penn State field hockey team will host Lock Haven on Wednesday, Sept. 12, for a 6 p.m. matchup at the Field Hockey Complex. The Lady Eagles, 4-2 on the season, will be the fourth opponent in seven days for the Nittany Lions, currently 5-2 overall.
The Lions are coming off of a successful weekend, earning two wins after a tough overtime loss to then No. 4 Princeton. Senior Kelsey Amy (Sweet Valley, Pa.) remains the leading point scorer for the squad, moving to 15 points after scoring two goals and recording an assist against the Owls. The forward leads the team with 7 goals, 45 shots and 28 shots on goal.
Junior Brittany Grzywacz (Collegeville, Pa.) had a three-goal weekend, scoring at Temple, as well as netting both goals against the Big Red. Grzywacz moved to 12 points after being awarded two back-to-back penalty strokes in the Cornell contest. She is currently three-for-three in penalty strokes.
Sophomore Laura Gebhart (Mount Joy, Pa.) and junior Whitney Reddig (Lititz, Pa.) are tied as the third-leading point scorers with six points apiece. Each have four assists to lead the team, with Reddig tallying two against the Owls. Gebhart recorded her first goal of the season against Temple, while junior Ashtin Klingler (Selinsgrove, Pa.) scored her second of the season, as well.
Goalkeeper Ayla Halus (Hershey, Pa.) continues to play solid in net for Penn State, making four saves over the weekend to move her season total to 30. The fifth-year senior currently boasts a 1.71 GAA and .714 save percentage with a 5-2 record. Halus' shutout against Cornell was her 12th in her career for the Lions.
Most recently, Lock Haven defeated Kent State 4-2 to give the Lady Eagles their fourth win of the season. Leading point scorer Kelly Harsh recorded three points during the contest, moving her season total to seven. Also leading the Eagles with seven points, Taylor Kennedy has three goals and one assist. Stephanie Ebersole, third in points for Lock Haven, also came away from Kent State with a goal and an assist to move her season point total to six. Ebersole assisted on Megan Evans' first goal of the season, while Emily Woods tallied her first goal, as well. Kelsey Moll will backstop for the Eagles after making 10 saves on Sunday. She currently holds a 1.94 GAA and a .750 save percentage.
Penn State will face Lock Haven for the 32nd time since 1964, holding the advantage in the all-time series with a 16-14-1 record. Last season, the Lions defeated the Eagles 5-2 on Sept. 2 at Lock Haven.
