Day One Results

BEALLSVILLE, Md. - The Penn State men's golf team has earned a solid fourth place ranking among the 12-team field at the Georgetown Intercollegiate at the Members Club at Four Streams after the first two rounds of play. The Nittany Lions marked a total 583 (297-286) on the day and sit only three strokes behind third place Michigan State in the team standings.

Two Nittany Lions broke the top ten among individuals on day one of the Georgetown Intercollegiate. Sophomore Jens Talbert (Little Rock, Ark.) jumped out in front for Penn State, tallying a 73 and 69 in rounds one and two, respectively. Talbert's current 142 par total has him sitting tied for fourth among all individuals. One stroke behind Talbert is freshman Chris Houston (Gilford, N.H.), who posted a 143 two-round total (72-71) and holds a tied-for-eighth placing on the leaderboard.

Both senior Jay Woodward (Bridgeport, W. Va.) and sophomore Xander McDonald-Smith (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) are tied for 32nd, scoring a 149 after 36 holes. Freshman Geoff Vartelas (Cromwell, Conn.) shot a 154 on the day, earning him a tied-for-52nd standing.

The University of Toledo marked a 575 team total, giving them a one stroke lead over second place Notre Dame after day one at the Members Club at Four Streams. It is Eastern Michigan's Brian ChurchillSmith who leads all individuals as he shot an impressive 4-under-par 138 through two rounds.
