UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State All-Sports Museum will host a Black History Month series beginning with guest speaker, and Penn State paralympian, Rohan Murphy on Wednesday at Noon as he speaks about his story of adversity, dedication and living life with a purpose. The Museum will also host Glory Road (Feb. 24-26) and Diversity in Aquatics (Feb. 29) as part of its Black History Month celebration.
Murphy, who lost his legs at birth, started to wrestle his freshman year of high school. Eventually he became successful enough that he wrestled at Penn State. Now as an inspirational speaker, he continues to live his life motivating others by his actions and by his words. He will speak at the All-Sports Museum on Wednesday at Noon.
The Museum will host three viewings of the movie Glory Road, which tells the story of Coach Don Haskins leading the Texas Western University men's basketball team to an NCAA Championship. The 1966 team was the first that started an all-black lineup in the country. The showings are begin Friday and run through Sunday at 1:00 p.m. served with free refreshments.
The All-Sports Museum concludes its Black History Month series with a talk by Diversity in Aquatics founders Shaun Anderson and Jayson Jackson. Diversity in Aquatics is a non-profit organization dedicated to decreasing the rate of drowning worldwide by helping to create, promote and support programs aimed at increasing diversity within the aquatic community and curbing drowning disparities. The talk will take place Wednesday, Feb. 29 at Noon.
Opened in 2002, the Penn State All-Sports Museum is located at the southwest corner of Beaver Stadium on Penn State's University Park campus. The Museum includes over 10,000 sq. ft. of exhibits tracing Penn State's proud athletic legacy back to its earliest roots. Visitors to the Museum are immersed in the Penn State experience as they connect with athletes and teams from the past and present.
