No. 48 Women's Tennis Knocks Off Old Dominion 7-0

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 48 Nittany Lions (5-0, 0-0) cruised past the Old Dominion Monarchs Sunday afternoon, winning 7-0 in front of their home crowd at Sarni Indoor Tennis Center. The Lions remain undefeated on the season and got their first shutout of the season, winning both doubles matches and all six singles matches against their regional foe.

Jacqueline Zuhse and Katherine quickly got the match off to a good start for the Nittany Lions defeating Juliana Pires and Ivana Vukovic, 8-2. Devan McCluskey and Carmen Sandor brought home their second doubles win in as many matches besting Melissa Esnal Olguin and Nika Khmolovska, 8-6, allowing the duo to remain undefeated together this season. Sandor also remains undefeated in all doubles matches this season with a 4-0 record.

The win gave Penn State the doubles point winning both of the first two doubles matches to finish. The No. 1 doubles match between the region's No. 4 ranked duo of Petra Januskova & Chelsea Utting and Old Dominion's Diana Ivanova & Nikol Hristova went unfinished with the score tied at 6 when it was called.

The Nittany Lions never slowed down, going on to win all six singles matches. McCluskey started off strong dropping only one game in her first set on her way to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ivana Vukovic. Utting stayed undefeated in singles matches on the season topping Ivanova, 6-2, 6-4. The match was Utting's first in the No. 1 spot on the season.

Sandor clinched the win for the Nittany Lions for the second week in a row defeating Juliana Pires, 6-4, 6-3. Januskova followed that up with a victory of her own in the No. 2 spot defeating Hristova 6-4, 7-6 giving Penn State a 5-0 lead.

In the final two matches Zuhse and Sarah Henderson were both victorious. Zuhse stayed unbeaten in singles action on the season winning 7-5, 7-5 against Esnal Olguin, moving to 4-0. After a marathon first set in which she topped Khmolovska in a tie-breaker, Sarah Henderson won her second set giving her the victory, 7-6, 6-2. The win also keeps Henderson undefeated on the spring, with two singles victories and two doubles victories.
