Kaut Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

Feb. 22, 2013

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Goalkeeper Austin Kaut (Morton, Pa.) of the Penn State men's lacrosse team was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Friday. The Tewaaraton Award honors the best players in NCAA lacrosse across all divisions.

A 2012 nominee as one of the top 25 players in NCAA lacrosse, Kaut is the first Nittany Lion to be on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List since 2008-09 when Drew Adams accomplished the feat. Kaut was a USILA All-American Second Team honoree in 2012 following an honorable mention campaign as a freshman in 2011.

The Tewaaraton Award is presented by the University Club of the City of Washington D.C. The selection committees are made of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to the men's and women's watch lists as the season progresses.

The lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees in late April. In mid-May, five men's and women's finalists will be announced and invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony. The ceremony will be held on May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.

A two-time All-CAA First Team and CAA Rookie of the Year honoree, Kaut has established himself as one of the best netminders in the nation. Kaut has an 18-13 collegiate record, posting an 8.11 goals-against average and .606 save percentage at Penn State. This season he is off to a 2-0 start following wins over Michigan and No. 9 Denver.

The Nittany Lions are currently ranked eighth in this week's USILA Coaches Poll and host No. 3 Notre Dame on Sunday at Noon. The Fighting Irish have two Tewaaraton Award Watch List honorees in goalkeeper Jack Kemp and midfielder Jim Marlatt.
