Robinson to Join Nittany Lions in 2014-15

Nov. 22, 2013

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Head men's hockey coach Guy Gadowsky announced Friday that forward James Robinson (Cochrane, Alta.) will join the Nittany Lions for the 2014-15 season after signing a National Letter of Intent.

"James is a high-character individual and should have an easy transition to Penn State Hockey," said Gadowsky. "He competes extremely hard and is very intelligent in all three zones."

A native of Cochrane, Alta., Robinson is currently in his second season with the Langley Rivermen of the British Columbia Hockey League. The two-time assistant captain is tied for fourth on the team in points (17) and is tied for fifth in both goals (7) and assists (10). Robinson has posted a pair of power-play and game-winning markers, while also adding a shorthanded tally.

In 2012-13, the 6-foot-1 forward appeared in 55 regular-season games and ranked third on the team in points (42) and assists (33), while adding nine goals. Robinson registered two points (1g, 1a) in four playoff games and earned the team's Energy Player of the Year award.

Robinson will mark the fourth Nittany Lion to join the squad directly from the BCHL, joining forward Curtis Loik (North Vancouver, B.C./Penticton) and defensemen Luke Juha (Mississauga, Ont./Vernon) and David Thompson (Glen Mills, Pa./Chilliwack).

The Nittany Lions (3-5-1) are in the midst of a season-long, five-game homestand and will return to Pegula Ice Arena next week for a two-game series against No. 15/17 Union Nov. 30-Dec. 1. Following its series against the Dutchmen, Penn State will open Big Ten play at No. 12 Wisconsin Dec. 6-7.
