UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State All-Sports Museum celebrates Women's History Month by hosting speakers and a film this March. All events will be held in the Clemen's Family Theater in the Museum, and are free and open to the public.
On Saturday, March 9 at 1pm and Sunday, March 10 at 2pm the Museum will show the film The Mighty Macs, directed by Tim Chambers, brother of Nittany Lion basketball coach Pat Chambers, and rated G.
In the early 70s, Cathy Rush becomes the head basketball coach at a tiny, all-girls Catholic college. Though her team has no gym and no uniforms - and the school itself is in danger of being sold - Coach Rush looks to steer her girls to their first national championship.
On Wednesday, March 13 at 7pm, the Museum will host Karen Schuckman, Penn State's first female All American.
Schuckman will share her earliest experiences with gymnastics, competing for a berth on the U.S. Olympic team and her time as a Penn State student athlete. Schuckman was one of 15 women at the time to receive a scholarship to play at Penn State and Penn State's first woman to become an All American. In her career she won individual national championships in all-around, vaulting and floor exercise.
Finally, on Tuesday, March 19 at 7pm, the Museum will host Natalie Dell, 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist in rowing.
Dell will share what it was like growing up on a farm, rowing with the club team at Penn State and becoming the first of her family to obtain a 4 year college degree. Dell shared her pride in being a Penn Stater at the 2012 Olympic games. She recounts the Penn State family, beautiful campus and collective feeling of community and positivity. "Add the gratification of hailing from a self-sustaining and student-run crew team...the result is one very proud Penn State graduate."
