UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. - The #11/11 Penn State Lady Lions (19-5, 10-2 Big Ten) return to the Bryce Jordan Center to host the Eighth Annual Pink Zone at Penn State game against Wisconsin (10-14, 3-9) at 1 p.m. Doors will open at 11 a.m. as a large crowd is expected.
PROMOTIONS: As part of the fundraising efforts for Pink Zone, $4 of every single-game ticket will be donated to the cause.
LIMITED BAG POLICY: Penn State has implemented a limited bag policy at all home athletic events this season. One clear plastic one-gallon plastic bag per person will be permitted for medical needs, child care needs and general items as needed. Items that can fit in a pocket should remain in patrons' pockets (i.e. keys, cell phone, wallet, glasses, camera, sunscreen, lip balm, make-up). General items of this nature, including those that don't fit in patrons' pocket, can also be placed in a clear plastic one-gallon plastic bag. All clear bags will be inspected through the bag and article check stations as in prior years.
KIDS FUN ZONE: The Kids Fun Zone will be on the concourse with an airbrush tattoo artist, caricature artist, face painter and a create-a-sign station.
TV: The game will air on ESPN2 with Adam Amin and Julianne Viani on the call. The game is also available on espn3.com. On DirecTV, the game can be found on channel 730 (730-1 for HD) and on Dish, the game is available on channel 145 and channel 457.
RADIO: The game is on the Penn State Sports Network and WRSC 1390 locally with Jerry Fisher and Julia Trogele calling the action. The audio feed is available at www.GoPSUsports.com.
LAST TIME OUT: Senior guard Maggie Lucas was 10-for-16 from the field and finished with a game-high 32 points as the Lady Lions claimed a 71-63 win at Indiana Thursday. With the win, Penn State ties the school record for Big Ten road wins in a season with its seventh victory. The victory also marked the fourth-straight 10-win conference season. Lucas, who started 4-for-4 from the field, had the hot hand all night as she posted her seventh career 30-point game and third of the season. Lucas completed her evening with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Senior guard/forward Ariel Edwards just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Fellow senior guard Dara Taylor added 12 points, eight assists, six rebounds and three steals for another solid outing.
SCOUTING WISCONSIN: The Badges are 10-14 overall and 3-9 in conference play, but have lost seven of their last eight contests. Michala Johnson leads the Wisconsin charge with a team-best 16.4 scoring average to go along with 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game. She is connecting on 54.5% of her shots from the field, which is in the top five in the Big Ten. Morgan Paige has also been solid for the Badgers, chipping in 12.5 points per game, while Taylor Wurtz adds 12.4 points per outing. Wurtz, who missed last season with a back injury, leads the team in rebounding (8.1), assists (2.4) and steals (1.0).
ALL-TIME VERSUS THE BADGERS: The Lady Lions are 28-11 all-time against Wisconsin, including wins in three of the last four contests. PSU is 17-2 in games played in Happy Valley. Penn State has the last two meetings in the Bryce Jordan Center. Last season, the squads split the two-game series with each team winning at home. The Lady Lions claimed an 84-40 decision on Jan. 17, 2013 in the BJC before dropping a 63-61 contest at the Kohl Center on Jan. 31. The teams met in the inaugural Pink Zone at Penn State game with Penn State earning the 70-61 win.
LAST TIME VERSUS UW: The Lady Lions had an 11-game winning streak snapped as Tiera Stephen converted on a rebound and layup with five seconds left to lift Wisconsin to a 63-61 on Jan. 31. Alex Bentley, who finished with nine tallies, four assists and a trio of steals, had a chance to tie the game at the buzzer but her attempt lipped out. Maggie Lucas was 7-for-12 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, en route to 18 points. Mia Nickson added 11 points and six boards, while Dara Taylor rounded out the double figure scorers for the Lady Lions with 10 points, two assists and three steals.
PRETTY IN PINK: Sunday will mark the eighth Pink Zone at Penn State game. The Lady Lions are 5-2 all-time in Pink Zone at Penn State games. The inaugural event took place in 2007 as the Lady Lions topped Wisconsin (70-61). The Lady Lions' Pink Zone opponents include Wisconsin (2006-07, 2013-14), Iowa (2007-08, 2008-09), Illinois (2009-10), Northwestern (2010-11) Minnesota (2011-12) and Michigan (2012-13).
LUCAS JOINS EXCLUSIVE CLUB: With six rebounds at Indiana on Feb. 13, senior guard Maggie Lucas did something that no other Lady Lion has every accomplished and something that only six players in Big Ten history have done. Lucas is the only player in program history with 2,000 points, 500 rebounds, 250 assists and 200 steals. Joining Lucas as the Big Ten players to accomplish the feat are Wisconsin's Jolene Anderson (2,312 p, 848 r, 409 a, 242 s), Minnesota's Lindsay Whalen (2,285 p, 559 r, 578 a, 235 s), Purdue's Stephanie White (2,181 p, 667 r, 578 a, 277 s), Minnesota's Laura Coenen (2,097 p, 1,028 r, 255 a, 290 s) and Ohio State's Tayler Hill (2,015 p, 509 r, 346 a, 240 s).
LUCAS ADDS NAME TO 500-REBOUND LIST: With six rebounds at Indiana on Feb. 13, senior guard Maggie Lucas became the 29th player in Penn State history to join the 500-rebound club. She ranks 29th in program history in caroms and needs 22 boards to move into a tie with Adrie DeVries (526; 1987-90) for 28th spot. Lucas is the fourth player in program history with 2,000 points and 500 rebounds.
MORE LUCAS SCORING PROWESS: Maggie Lucas added her name to another exclusive scoring list with 32 tallies at Indiana on Feb. 13 to become the third player in school history with four seasons of 500 or more points. Lucas joins fellow 2,000-point scorers Kelly Mazzante and Susan Robinson as the only Lady Lions to accomplish the feat. Lucas is currently tied for 25th on Penn State's single-season scoring list with 516 tallies this season. She needs 13 points to move into the list's Top 20.
BIG TEN ROAD WARRIORS: The Lady Lions picked up their school-record eighth consecutive Big Ten road win with a 71-63 victory at Indiana on Feb. 13. The previous school-record for consecutive Big Ten road wins was seven that took place from Jan. 31, 1999 until Jan. 16, 2000. Penn State's last Big Ten road loss was at Minnesota (89-81) on Feb. 28, 2012. The win over the Hoosiers also marked the seventh Big Ten road victory of the season, which ties the school record (1994, 2000, 2004, 2012). The Lady Lions are 20-3 in Big Ten road games since 2011-12.
The Lady Lions continue their homestand against Northwestern on Thursday at 7 p.m. It's Jersey Night, fans that wear their favorite Penn State jersey will receive a $5 ticket. It's also our final mini-magnetic bobblehead giveaway, fans will get the Nittany Lion Mini-Bobblehead at the gates while supplies last.
Lady Lion Basketball single-game tickets are available by calling 1-800-NITTANY. Single-game tickets are $15 and $12 for adults and seniors and $9 and $7 for youth (12 and younger). The PNC Flex Books are available again this year for $99. The Flex Book gives fans 12 vouchers, 10 that can be redeemed in any combination for Nittany Lion and Lady Lion Basketball tickets throughout the year and two extra vouchers for the Nittany Lions' Coaches Vs. Cancer game and the Lady Lions' Pink Zone game.
For the 15th time, Penn State will host the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament First and Second Rounds on March 23 and 25, 2014. All-session tickets are $30 for adults and $17 for youth and students. There is also an all-session group rate for groups of 20 or more of any age at $20 per package. Fans can purchase tickets by calling 1-800-NITTANY or visiting the Penn State athletics ticket office between the hours of 10 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
