Penn State Moves up to Fifth After Two Rounds Vosters tied for sixth after her second round 73

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- With the second and final round in the books before the "playoff round" begins, the Penn State women's golf team locked up their spot in the championship flight slated for Tuesday morning. The Nittany Lions posted a second round score of 303, which moved them up two spots to fifth place. "We are happy to be playing good right out of the gate, not having had any time outside," said head coach Denise St. Pierre. "I feel they are doing pretty well." The weather conditions weren't much of a factor the temperature was very favorable, making the slight rain and wind tolerable for the golfers.

Penn State looks for their first tournament championship since the Mercedes Benz Collegiate in October of 2012. The top 19 teams will compete for the championship at the Cougar Point Course on Tuesday morning with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun.

Senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) shot a one-over par 73, which put her at three shots over par for the tournament. Vosters jumped up 17 spots to tying for sixth through two rounds. Junior Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Ont.) is tied for tenth place as she shot a second round 76. Elliott is just one stroke behind Vosters as she has 148 strokes through two rounds. Junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) and sophomore Grace Chung (Ontario, Canada) are tied for 48th place after their second round scores of 78 and 76, respectively.

Coach St. Pierre did express concerns regarding the weather scheduled for Tuesday, which may make it tough for all of the golfers to play the best they can. "We would like to make a move on some teams tomorrow. Scores may be affected by the forecast as it calls for very cold temperatures and high winds."

Kent State is the leader in the clubhouse after two rounds as they shot a second round 302 to put them at 594 shots. They are five strokes ahead of second place High Point. Sammie Buchana of UNC-Greensboro holds the individual lead as she shot a 72, putting her at two under par through two rounds.
