UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; March 8, 2014 - Penn State sent a quartet of swimmers to Atlanta, Ga. this weekend to compete in the Georgia Tech Last Chance Meet to try to better their times for the upcoming NCAA Championships. John Hauser (Pottstown, Pa.), Matt Stasiunas (Avondale, Pa.), Andrew Schuehler (Camden, N.J.) and Nick Ankosko (East Brunswick, N.J.) were the four representatives of Penn State at the meet.

Hauser recorded the highest finish on Saturday of the four PSU swimmers, placing second in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 43.46. The time is the fastest the senior has recorded in 2014 and the second fastest of the season. The mark qualifies the senior for the NCAA "B" standard.

The only Nittany Lion to record a personal best time was Stasiunas, who touched the wall in the 500 freestyle race in 4:19.72. The mark is almost three seconds faster than his previous best time. The freshman finished third in the race. Also competing in the 500 was Ankosko. The junior finished right behind Stasiunas in fourth place with a time of 4:23.34. Both Penn State swimmers reached the NCAA "B" times with their performances.

Schuehler recorded his second fastest time of the season in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 53.68 seconds in third place. The freshman was just under four tenths off from his career-best time. Like the other three swimmers, Schuehler reached the NCAA "B" standard.

Penn State will be back in the pool tomorrow for the second and final day of the Georgia Tech Last Chance Meet. The prelims are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the finals to follow at 6 p.m.
