UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Goalkeeper Austin Kaut (Morton, Pa.) was named a Scholar All-American on Tuesday by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. Kaut is the eighth Nittany Lion to achieve the recognition and the third under head coach Jeff Tambroni in as many years.

Kaut, who became the first four-time All-CAA First Team honoree in Colonial Athletic Association history earlier this month, is one of 105 USILA Scholar All-Americans across all three divisions of college lacrosse. Kaut finished his senior campaign 13th nationally in goals-against average (8.65) and 16th in save percentage (.547).

During CAA play, Kaut dominated his opposition by leading the league in GAA (6.48), save percentage (.638) and saves per game (12.00). Now with the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse following his collegiate career, Kaut was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season and also PSU's CAA All-Academic Team Award winner.

Kaut joins Nick Dolik and Matthew Mackrides in Tambroni-coached student-athletes to receive the honor, and all have done so in successive years. The USILA Scholar All-America program began in 1989 and this year marks the 26th edition.

The USILA Scholar All-America program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens for their communities. The USILA Selection Committee tabs an overall team representing Divisions I, II and III. The Scholar All-Americans will be recognized at the annual lacrosse All-America Banquet this weekend in Philadelphia. The USILA All-American Division I team will be announced later this week.
